Plagiarism guides for students, parents and teachers

January 13, 2010

Ofqual, the regulator of qualifications, examinations and assessments in England, has worked with plagiarismadvice.org to produce a set of guides “to help students, parents and teachers to avoid falling foul of plagiarism within coursework and controlled assessments”.

The three guides are

  • Authenticity: A Guide for Teachers
  • Avoiding Plagiarism: A Guide for Parents and Carers
  • Using Sources: A Guide for Students: Find it – Check it – Credit it

They are all fairly short and readable – but not so short that they are superficial – and the Student guide in particular does a good job of using language which is not likely to alienate students by being either condescending or too high-flown. Ofqual’s remit extends (I believe) up to level 3, but my impression is that this guide would be useful for both FE and undergraduate students.

The guides can be downloaded from http://www.ofqual.gov.uk/2719.aspx

It is also possible to order hard copies.
