Why do some people only think of plagiarism in June?

June 18, 2010

This is the title of a post on Dave Foord’s weblog, in which he suggests that, rather than only getting concerned with plagiarism at this time of year, when it’s too late to remedy, lecturers should be educating their students in the topic from the start of their course.

Dave also links to a rather wonderful video on plagiarism from the University of Bergen. It’s (mostly) in Norwegian, but with English subtitles. I’ve never laughed so much at a plagiarism video before – what am I saying, I’ve never laughed at a video on plagiarism before! I can’t guarantee that your students will find it so amusing, but it may be worth showing as a lighthearted way of introducing a serious topic. Particularly recommended for computing students.
