Using Turnitin for marking and providing feedback

June 15, 2011

From the RSC Scotland South & West e-Assessment blog: Using Turnitin to teach academic writing, ensure consistent marking and enable faster turnaround of feedback

This features a video interview with Jo Oliver, lecturer in nursing at The University of the West of Scotland, talking about her experience of using Turnitin

  • to teach about appropriate academic writing in preparation for summative assessment
  • using the GradeMark marking tool to achieve greater consistency in marking papers, and providing faster feedback to students.

This is of particular interest just now as programmes in our College of Nursing & Midwifery, and the School of Psychology, Social Care & Human Sciences will be switching entirely to online submission via Turnitin from September.

Please note that Cath Ellis, one of the speakers at the University Learning & Teaching Conference on 28th June, will be talking about the use of Turnitin in her presentation Electronic submission and marking: the benefits for students, staff and institutions.
