Blackboard upgrade: Friday 03 to Monday 13 August 2012

July 27, 2012

We upgraded to Blackboard version 9.1 in July 2010. At the time this was the very latest release of Blackboard, and it brought a much improved user interface, with a range of new features. There are, however, a number of software bugs which have come to light, and in order to address these we need to apply further updates.

This summer we will be moving to a much more recent Service Pack for Blackboard 9.1

Testing shows that this Service Pack not only fixes existing bugs, but brings new tools and features designed to improve your online learning experience. We will also be updating our server operating system and database software, to ensure that we have the optimum combination, and to offer improved stability.

Unfortunately this all takes time, and requires Blackboard to be taken out of service while the changes are being made.

The Blackboard system will be taken offline on the evening of Friday 03 August, and brought back into operation by no later than Monday 13 August.

We apologise for this interruption to service, but have planned the downtime for a period which will inconvenience the fewest learners; and we are confident that the upgraded system will provide an improved service for all.

If you have queries about the upgrade, please contact the IT Service Desk on 0300 111 4895, email itservicedesk@uwl.ac.uk

Staff: if you have resit work due to be submitted and/or marked via Blackboard at this time, and have not yet made arrangements for this, please seek advice as soon as possible from the Technology Enhanced Learning team within INSTIL.
